Fillings

Why: Fillings are necessary when there is decay that has made its way past the hard outer shell (enamel) of the tooth.

What:

  1. The decay on the affected tooth is removed.
  2. The tooth is cleaned and a layer of bonding material is placed (it is used to bond the tooth to the filling).
  3. A tooth colored composite material (filling) now replaces the missing tooth structure.

Next Steps: Fillings generally last 3 years or more depending on home care and other factors.
